Company plans to deliver services in a faster and cheaper way
KUCHING: Maxis Bhd plans to make use of Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) poles to deliver its services as such a method of deployment will be faster and cheaper, said Maxis chief operating officer Jean-Pascal Van Overbeke.
“We carried out trials (using TNB poles) in the Klang Valley a month ago.
“We are going to try out this solution in Penang and Johor this month, and in Terengganu during the FIFA World Cup season,'' he told StarBiz after the launch of Maxis as the official mobile broadcaster of the 2010 FIFA World Cup at Kuching Hilton here yesterday.
Present at the event were four former top footballers - Datuk Soh Chin Aun, Santok Singh, James Wong and Hassan Sani - whom Maxis have signed up as brand ambassadors.
The four were instrumental in helping Malaysia qualify for the Olympics 30 years ago.

Maxis, which has more than 12 million subscribers, has wired up 400 buildings in and around the Klang Valley.
Asked if Maxis was exploring the use of fibre-optics in Sarawak to deliver its services, Van Overbeke said:
“We are in talks with everybody to acquire or lease (the fibre optic).''
Maxis has some 400,000 subscribers in Sarawak.
Giving a sneak peek into the future of Maxis' home offerings, Van Overbeke said the company intended to offer customers next-generation broadband and IPTV,
A family oriented voice and data package is also in the pipeline.
“The home unit will give customers a full suite of services and content.
“(These) will be seamlessly connected and provide families with experiences to share, from inside the home to anywhere they roam,'' he said, adding that Maxis would soon launch its IPTV service.
